DVC a must read?

As a Christian, should I read The Da Vinci Code?

The answer to this question is your call. However, I'll tell you why I've read it.

The Da Vinci Code is a book that defiantly denounces the truthfulness about the Jesus of the New Testament and is creating quite a stir on many fronts. Reading the book allows me to meaningfully converse with others who have read it. It also enables me to speak intelligently about the material in the book with those who haven't read it but who have only heard rumors about it. That's the kind of intellectual integrity I'd ask of those who oppose Christianity and the kind of respect I should offer in return.

Whether we like it or not, the media blitz of books, magazines, film, and television provides an open door for Christians to converse meaningfully about the truth and the fiction concerning Jesus. Knowing what those who want to undermine the biblical record are saying equips us to be ready to share a reasoned response for the hope that we have in Jesus Christ that is rooted not in a contrived story but in the verifiable and historical evidence of the New Testament (1 Peter 3:15).
